Welcome to Ojibwe!
I am very excited to begin a new year!
I have been teaching in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 1995 and have been at Sanford since 2010.
The summer of 2023 has been very busy for me because I spent most it traveling. I then went home for most of the summer to the L'Anse Indian reservation in Upper Michigan. I then spent a week in Duluth at Finn Fest and did an education lecture "Finnish teaching methods in American classrooms." Following Duluth I traveled out West to the Badlands, Yellowstone National Park, and to the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana. In Montana I stayed in Crow Agency and attended the Crow Fair where I learned a lot of history of this tribe along with a visit to the Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.
This year I was asked to help out and teach Ojibwe language and culture. I will still work on some history aspects with the class since that is my academic specialty.
I go by Ms. Mavis in class.
