Learning Target (LT)
What are we really trying to accomplish in math?
By the end of the year, we plan for all students to say "I can..." on nearly 50 individual learning targets (LTs). Students track their progress on each Learning Target by recording their 1st time scores, making goals, and recording their improved scores after taking a quiz on the same LT the 2nd time, 3rd, or until the knowledge is understood. You can identify the learning targets in the Student Portal by looking for "LT."
For more information and a detailed list of learning targets and MN state standards by grade visit the MPS math support pages: http://math.mpls.k12.mn.us
We are an MYP school so the LT's will be scored on an 8 point scale:
7 (A-) and 8 (A): student is exceeding the standard - your student is doing great academically in class.
6 (B+): student is meeting the standard – your student is doing great academically in class.
5 (B-) : student is partially meeting the standard
3 (C-) and 4 (C) : student is approaching the standard – please encourage students to sign up for the math THINK room on Thursdays for extra practice and support.
2 (D) : student is not showing an understanding of the standard - please encourage students to engage in all class activities and also to sign up for the math THINK room on Thursdays for extra practice and support.
If you see a score that looks like this 7.05 that means their first-time score was a 5, and then they improved to a 7 the second time they tested.
